Nobody knew and loved the Dolomites as well as Emilio Comici, the most elegant mountaineer of his era as well as the name giver of our Hut. Born in Triest in 1901, he developed a fascination for speleology and alpinism early in life. In 1932, he quit his mundane existence and moved to the Dolomites, where he worked as a mountain guide. He opened legendary climbing routes and received a gold medal for his ascent of the Sassolungo north face. His life ended tragically: he fell from a rock face during an exercise in 1940.
